Amendments to Women Labor Law in Saudi Arabia

Okaz Newspaper mentioned that the latest amendments to Saudi Labor Law affirmed that there shall be no discrimination among workers as to their gender, disability, age, or any other forms of discrimination, either during their working hours, recruitment process, or even at the advertisement for vacancies.

Competent authorities abolished the retirement age limit, of which it was at 60 years for male workers and 55 years for female workers, and considered it as may be set by the Saudi Social Insurance Law.

It is referred that the Saudi Labor Law abolished the act that enabled women to receive pension salary in case of having contributions of at least 120 months, when she turns 55 or more. This coincided with a clarification of amendments to Travel Documents and Civil Status in Saudi Arabia, made by Saudi Council of Ministers last Thursday.

Council of Ministers mentioned on its social media "Twitter" account that the amendments include an act that enables Saudi female to obtain a passport without her male guardian permission. The amendments also contained: "both male and female have the right to obtain passports as long as they are over the age of 21."

The Council referred to the ability of reporting the birth and death cases, including both man and woman as well, mentioning that "woman shall have the right to claim and obtain the family record document from the Civil Status".

It is mentioned that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia approved the amendment to Travel Documents and Civil Status Law, Labor Law, and Social Insurance.
