Libya: Workers' sit-in of public works company reaches agreement

Following the sit-in organized by the workers of the Public Works Corporation, held in front of the headquarters of the Ministerial Council in the Qirnada region on July 30, 2019 which called for the disbursement of delayed wages, an agreement was signed between Nermine Chérif, president of the General Union of Libyan Workers and Abdallah al-Thani, head of the Provisional Government. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Vice President of the General Works Union and the Director of the Office of the Head of the Provisional Government.

During this meeting, several files dealing with labor and workers, including the issue of salary arrears and the non-classification of wages in the 2019 budget, were discussed.

Stakeholders in the negotiations agreed on a number of points to substantively resolve the issues. Moreover, it was decided that a meeting would be held in the coming in Bengazi in the presence of the Minister of Local Governance, the President of the General Union of Workers' Union of Libya, the President of the Union, the President of the Board of Directors of the company, the director of the General Company for Building and Construction and the president of its union.
