The head of the National Federation of Employees’ and Workers’ Unions in Lebanon (FENASOL), Castro Abdullah, asked the Ministry of Labour and the government to cancel immediately and unconditionally all measures issued by the Ministry of Labour concerning the Palestinian refugees, to exempt them from the work permit, and to amend the Labour Law and Social Security No. 128 and 129 approved by the House of Representatives on 24/8 2010.
Castro stressed in a press conference held last Monday that the right of Palestinians to work should be amended to include professional groups and competencies. Moreover, he pointed out that the Ministry of Labour should pursue the employers who violate the labour law and fight the employment offices, which are also known as the” trafficking in human beings’ mafia”. In addition, they should work on a plan that would protect the labour force.
work of the combating of the illegal workers.
He stressed that the political offences of these measures refer to the fact that the Lebanese state is adopting a discriminatory policy against the Palestinian refugees with the aim of displacing a large number of them outside Lebanon, pointing out that the main reason behind these procedures is Lebanon’s internal conflict.
It is noteworthy that the Lebanese Ministry of Labour decided to activate the Labour Law provisions, which require all foreign workers in Lebanon to obtain official work permits, so that they can work legally in the Lebanese territories. This has provoked massive protests among the Palestinians in the camps, in Lebanon to ask for withdrawing of this decision.
