Sudanese media confirmed that the Sudanese authorities released the President of the Sudanese Journalists' Union, Sadeq Al-Rizaqi ,on “Thursday” , after having been arrested since Wednesday for unknown reasons.
The Sudanese Journalists' Union called on the ruling Transitional Military Council to "immediately release" its head Rizaigi or that he be put on trial.
The Union held an emergency meeting to discuss the arrest of the head of the President of the Sudanese Journalists' Union, the president of the African Federation of Journalists and the vice president of the Arab Journalists’ union. Moreover, the union had lost contact with its president since Wednesday afternoon, following his arrest, for unknown reasons.
It also pointed out that the syndicate’s executive office formed a committee for the immediate contact with the Military Council and the relevant authorities to reveal the circumstances behind the arrest of Rizaqi. In addition, the syndicate’s executive office will be active to follow up this case and inform the public of the news.
The Union’s executive office conveyed its deep concern to the International Federation of Journalists, the African Federation of Journalists, and the Arab Journalists' Union for the arrest of Sadiq al-Rizaqi.
