The parliament's Manpower Committee agreed on Wednesday to amend the article related to the full-time trade union work under the Trade Union Law 213/2017. The new article stipulates that the full-time dedication to trade union work is allowed for general labor unions only and doesn’t apply to the trade union committees.
The article provoked the anger of some members of the governmental Egyptian Trade Union Federation, who considered that the businessmen demand of cancelling the full-time trade union work aims to cancel the trade union activity inside societies and prevent the trade union committees from outreaching to the workers.
The also considered that cancelling the trade unions’ exemptions of gas, electricity and waters fees can sabotage the trade union activity, especially that these exemptions reached 50% in the former law and were considerably helpful for the trade unions.
