The director of Migration and Borders’ watch department in the Ministry of Interior declared, in an interview with ‘Al Pais’ newspaper on Monday, that the Moroccan authorities had prevented about 40300 irregular migrations’ attempts since January, which is 25% more than last year.
According to him, the borders’ watch helped to lessen the irregular migration, however, more work has to be done.
The Spanish newspaper said that Morocco has won a new status that made it the center of negotiations in Europe, and that the EU should support it more to increase the cooperation between Europe and Morocco.
It is noteworthy that 10485 irregular migrants managed to reach the Spanish coasts, since the beginning of the year and to the end of June; which is 27% less than last year, according to the Spanish Ministry of Interior’s data.
