"We are all Mohammed al-Shamakhi," is a hashtag that has been circulating in Twitter recently, raising questions among many young Omani lecturers in the technical colleges who were recruited through private companies.
The "Atheer" website confirmed that these young workers face problems in their professional careers and that the Omani lecturers enrolled through the recruitment companies have no right to get promotions through the ministry. Many tried repeatedly to be appointed through the ministry rather than remain subject to the recruitment companies.
The lecturers confirmed to the above-mentioned website that there are several differences between the company employees and ministry employees who work in the same field. These include the inability of company lecturers to obtain some of the benefits enjoyed by the civil service employees provided by other institutions in the Sultanate of Oman, such as obtaining loans or personal financing from banks. Moreover, there is a clear difference between the salaries of the two categories. Despite the fact that the Ministry of Manpower pays salaries to the recruitment companies estimated at 1995 Omani riyals (5181 dollars) for each lecturer, lecturers receive only about 1250 riyals (3246 dollars), i.e. much less than the civil service lecturer’s salary, which is about 1825 Omani riyal (4740 dollars).
In addition, lecturers recruited by the recruitment companies complain about unequal leave time and not being able to participate in training sessions and programs, unlike their colleagues who are subject to the provisions of the Civil Service Law.
