Tunisia: the authorities guilty of harassment on irregular migrants

The Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights accused UN organizations and Tunisian authorities of moral harassment against irregular migrants. The Forum was surprised while collecting testimonies of migrants who were rescued by the Maridive ship after 20 days of waiting in inhuman conditions and their hosting in a temporary shelter. The migrants, who were deprived from their freedom to move, have experienced a huge moral harassment to make them accept voluntary deportation by the International Migration Organization, and a big lack in humanitarian help, as well as, a language and translation problems.

The Forum asked for all harassment, aiming at obliging migrants to be deported, to stop and to cancel the deportation procedures for 12 Bengalis who refuse it. It also warned about transforming shelters into detention centers that prevent migrants from contacting people and institutions willing to help them with their rights. It insisted on the migrants suffering because of the inhuman UE policies, which closed the borders, restrained humanitarian sea rescuing and transferred the crises to the transit countries.
