After one year of liquidation announcement of Abraaj Group, several former foreign employees still wait for their dues and end – of – service payments.
Where most former foreign employees in Abraaj Group, located in Dubai, have only about 25% of their dues, others still wait to be paid by the company, by which they should get their end – of – service payments as per stipulated by UAE Labour Law.
A report issued by the provisional liquidator states that the dues are about 24 million dollars, a total of unpaid salaries and end – of – service payments till July 2018. It is supposed that Abraaj Group shall pay the foreign employees their end – of – service liabilities, though; it bears no responsibility to allocate amounts for funding such allowances, therefore employees will unlikely get such payments, if company has not enough money to fund such allowances.
In 2018, another report issued by Willis Towers Watson's insurance consulting stated that nearly 90% of companies in UAE and Gulf region have no sustainable plan for funding the end – of – service liabilities.
