The Iraqi Parliament is seeking through the State Administration Law, which is currently discussed by the Finance Committee, to establish a new salary scale for the employees.
The official newspaper, Al-Sabah, quoted a member of the parliamentary legal committee Alya Nassif that "there is more than a proposal submitted by the committee to the parliament’s General Secretariat, including the unification of the salary scale of civil servants in accordance with justice and equal opportunities, as stated in the paragraph of the State Administration Law.”
Nassif explained that "the purpose of the legislation of this law is to raise the wages of employees of ministries, whose salaries are less than 300 thousand dinars, as they cannot cope anymore with the difficult living conditions and the fluctuating economic situation". Nassif added that there were wrong information all over media who said that some salaries would be reduced, which is wrong as "the salaries of special departments as prime minister and the MPs have their own law, which is the same for the ministries of oil and foreign higher education. Thus, the law for the standardization of the salary scale covers the departments such as health, education and industry in order to achieve justice. "
