The British entertainment company, the Melors, which is currently building a huge entertainment hub in Saudi Arabia, has been alerted to the need to adhere to its human rights obligations, taking into account the growing concern about the working conditions.
The lifting of the ban on the establishment of such centres is described as an indicator of the ongoing reforms in the country, but the Saudi regime is criticized for the Yemen's war and the workers' rights.
The company signed a five-year contract to establish the entertainment centre, as part of the investments announced by Mohammed Bin Salman in the field of entertainment in the country, which cost amounted to 46 billion pounds.
"The companies must now take into account their impact on the status of workers, communities and countries in which they work" said Robert Markdell, the professor of international law and human rights at Nottingham University. He added: "The companies should take into consideration the countries’ situations, especially in regard of the human rights".
