The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs revealed that it seeks to include the retirees into the health insurance system starting from 2020.
The Minister of Labor, Bassem Abdul Zaman, confirmed during a meeting with the head of the General Federation of Iraq Trade Unions (GFITU), Ali Rahim, and a number of retirees "the ministry's serious endeavour to include the retirees in the health insurance system by 2020, and to work on improving their living conditions, as well as the provision of the necessary social services”.
It is expected that the Board of Directors of the fund will pay the fees of the subscribed workers. Moreover, providing support to the private sector will also have a significant impact on easing the pressure on the public sector, as the retirement benefits will be similar to those of the public (governmental) sector.
In response to the GFTITU president’ request to meet with the cabinet to discuss the addition of funds within the next budget, in order to improve the workers’ situations, the Minister of Labor expressed that the ministry is working to achieve all the workers’ demands to get a better living.
