The Portland Cement Factory workers expose themselves to danger and save the factory from destruction, in Minya Governorate in Egypt

Although they entered on the fourth day of strike, inside the administrative headquarters of the "Portland Minya" factory located in Sheikh Fadhel Bani Mazar in Minya, the workers exposed themselves to danger to save the factory from burning.

The local media reported that a huge fire broke out on Thursday due to a sudden breakdown in the production line.

One of the strikers revealed that they were surprised that a fire broke out inside the Portland Cement Factory in Minya due to a sudden breakdown in the production line and were able to extinguish it without any casualties or damage, and then returned to continue their strike, inside the factory to ask for their rights.

The employees of one of the supply companies in the cement factory in Sheikh Fadhel in Bani Mazar, North of Minya province, have announced their strike, since last Sunday, and they were supposed to enter, yesterday, in a hunger strike, according to labour sources.

The workers confirmed that they suffered from injustice and discrimination within the factory, as they have not received any annual increases in their salaries, or annual bonuses since 2015. Yet, the insurance premium is deducted from the salary annually.

The workers have been also deprived of any financial rewards like the other employees of the company in the holidays, since 2016. Moreover, they have no family medical care like the other employees of the company, but only the partial medical coverage. They don’t get meals neither although they work 12 hours a day, and they are not included in the company's social housing association.
