Iraq: The Ministry of Labor calls for the commitment to the minimum wage and not to delay in the payment of the workers’ salaries

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs called on all ministries, regions and provincial councils to adhere to the minimum wage of workers and not to delay in the payment of their salaries.

The local media confirmed that the ministry received complaints about the violation of the janitors’ rights, who are covered by the Labor Law No. (37) of 2015 and the cabinet’s decision, which set the minimum wage by the municipalities of Baghdad by not implementing the cabinet’s decision and not enjoying the rights stipulated in the Labor Law .

In the same context, the law guarantees the worker the right to regular and sick leave, transportation fees, food, social security and occupational health and safety at the workplace.

In a memorandum issued on May 27, the Ministry of Labor asked the ministries and regions, which are not affiliated with the ministry and provincial councils to commit to the implementation of the Labor Law No. (37) of 2015 and the cabinet’s decision No. 413 of 2017, which set the minimum wage and the payment of the workers’ salaries on time.
