Bahrain: The issuance of 198,776 work permits, of which 196,466 for the employees, 1,048 for the temporary workers and 1,262 for the investors

The Minister of Labour and Social Development of Bahrain said in a press statement that the total number of new work permits issued by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) – excluding foreign workers – reached 198,776 work permits, of which 196,466 for the employees, 1,048 for the temporary workers and 1,262 for the investors.

In addition, 239,043 permits have been renewed, of which 236,352 have been renewed for the employees. LMRA has initiated 42,868 applications for the transfer of foreign workers in 2016. The number of applications that have met the transfer requirements has reached 30,298 applications (including some applicants, that were received in 2015).

The Executive Chairman of the authority revealed the rate of the employers, who let the foreign workers violate the terms of the permit, decreased to 0.45% of the total number of expatriate workers in the kingdom. Moreover, he pointed out that this low percentage is due to the continuous follow-up and awareness efforts carried out by the authority, and the relevant governmental organizations, which contribute to the improvement of the working environment and the maintenance and respect of the labour rights.

In terms of inspection visits, the number of last year’s inspection visits reached 24,478 visits, covering all the kingdom’s governorates.
