Morocco / Sidi Bennour: Exploitation, threat of expulsion and the violation of the trade union right in the Sultana Hotel

The union office of the Sultana Hotel of the Moroccan Workers’ Union in "Al-Walidiya", in Sidi Bennour province is expected to organize a protest vigil today and tomorrow, in protest against the hotel’s management violation of the trade union right.

The trade union accuses the administration of procrastination in opening the channel of dialogue with the union office and of deliberately harassing and threatening the workers because of their membership in the Moroccan Workers’ Union. Moreover, it denounces the workers’ poor financial situation, in this five-star hotel.

In its statement, the trade union office condemned the threat to expel workers by the hotel owners, through a judicial commissioner, as well as the intimidation, psychological torture, humiliation and ill-treatment subjected on the trade unionists by the hotel owner.

The trade union office denounced also the non-payment of their wages for two years, as well as the servitude attitude subjected on workers by the hotel owners and the responsible manager.

The workers ask for their rehabilitation, the review of wages, promotions, grants and compensations related to hard work and transportation, as well as the review of the number of working hours per week and additional hours. Besides, they ask to stop the targeting of the trade union members by assigning them difficult tasks beyond the law, stressing that the hotel’s management must be committed to provide a healthy atmosphere for the workers that would ensure their dignity and social justice.
