Today, the teachers in Lebanon strike in all the public schools in protest against the Budget Bill, following the Teachers’ Association’s call in Lebanon.
The teachers considered that the statements of the ministers regarding this subject are very controversial, expressing their disapproval, resentment and their refusal of the infringement of their social gains and all the rights they have obtained after years of struggling.
The Association of Responsible Teachers warned the ministers and the political forces and accused them of being the responsible for causing this controversial issue, calling on them to "stop exploiting the low income workers, as they have nothing to do with the budget deficit, unlike corruption and the looting of the state resources, which are estimated by billions, which are the main reason behind it.
For its part, the association called on a 2-day strike, starting from yesterday to protest against the Budget Bill and the violation of the teachers’ social rights and gains.
Moreover, the association called for taking escalatory moves, starting from the open strike, and called for boycotting the official examinations, in defence of the teachers’ and professors’ rights.
In the same context, the professors held a strike in the courtyard of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with the participation of students, announcing the continuation of their general strike until the budget is released by the Council of Ministers.
