In an official report to the Ministry of Family in Morocco: 54% of the Moroccan women were subject to violence within 3 months

A report by the Ministry of Family, Solidarity, Equality and Social Development revealed that violence in the context of the women’s marital status is the highest prevailing rate, with 54.4% for the engaged women and 52.5% for the married ones, who were subjected to violence at the national level, while 12.4 percent of the Moroccan women were subjected to violence in public places, whose age ranged between 18 to 64 years old.

work of the second national research on the prevalence of violence against women in all the kingdom’s regions, from January 2nd to March 10th of this year, revealed also that 54.4 per cent of the Moroccan women were subjected to violence, 55.8 percent in the urban area and 51.6 percent in the rural area, while the age group of the most vulnerable to violence (59.8 percent) ranged between 25 and 29 years old.

The report pointed out that violence against women takes place in the public, educational, professional, family and marital status domains, as well as after divorce and widowhood.

The same source revealed the discrepancies between the urban and rural women percentages. In fact, the percentage of women in rural areas was 19.6%, compared to 16.9% in the urban sector, while it reached 25.5 % percent for the female students compared to 21.6 percent of them in the urban area.

13.4 percent of women reported that they have been subjected to violence through internet. In fact, according to the available data, young age groups are the most vulnerable to this type of violence, where harassment accounted for 71.2 percent as online violence. Moreover, 3.2 percent of women between 18 and 64 years old, i.e. 349 688 women, suffered all forms of violence.
