Seventy irregular African migrants died on Friday, off the coast of Tunisia, following the sinking of their boat near the coasts of Sfax.
According to the agency, 16 others were rescued by fishing boats, which were close to the area of the incident. The exhumation continues to be carried out by the Sea Army; thus, the number of deaths is likely to rise.
The Tunisian Defence Ministry confirmed in a statement that "the boat left on Thursday the Libyan port of Zouwara towards Italy."
In fact, the irregular migration rates have increased in Tunisia, since the 2011 revolution, taking advantage of the lack of security at the time, which quickly receded after the authorities tightened the grip on illegal immigration.
