Tomorrow in Morocco: The marine fishing workers will enter into strike

The National Union of Employees of the Ministry of Fisheries of the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CTD) decided to launch two national strikes on 9 and 30 May 2019, including all the peripheral and central departments and maritime training institutes. Moreover, they decided to organize a protest vigil, in front of the central administration in Rabat, which coincided with the beginning of the squids’ season, in protest against the non-meeting of the workers’ legitimate demands.

Abdallah Al-Yasmi, the general secretary of the National Syndicate of the “Moroccan Sahara” website, said that the strike was due to the central administration's non-commitment to the agreements of April 26, 2015 and July 12, 2017.

He stressed that during these previous meetings, the administration agreed on a set of demands, some of which do not require time to respond to them, while some others require the officials’ will to achieve them, including the absence of the legal protection for employees and the non-settling of the detainees’ administrative situation, of the Mohsen Fekri case, in Al Hoceima.

The Secretary-General pointed out that he had previously corresponded with the Minister of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries, along with holding a meeting attended by 13 central officials headed by the Secretary General of the Ministry. However, the minutes’ outcomes were not implemented in relation to the institutionalization of dialogue, legal protection and periodic review.

On the other hand, the Minister of Fisheries was asked to join the dialogue with the National Union, after that the sectoral dialogue with the current officials did not lead to any solution.

In fact, the meeting witnessed the non-commitment of the officials to the agreements reached with the union and the delay in resolving the administrative situation of Mohammed Sharaf and Rashid Al-Rakaki. Moreover, the administration refused to review the monitoring system to protect the monitoring officers.
