Four university graduates and unemployed girls have been on hunger strike for about two weeks in protest against the authorities' disregard of their commitments to employ them.
The protestors had organized many vigils and strikes in front of the headquarters of the province, amid the support of many associations and human rights organizations in the region.
In a joint statement, the associations expressed their deep concern about the situation of the protestors: Karima Mesbahi, Samia Mesbahi, Najia El Marwani and Monia Mesbahi, who entered in a hunger strike two weeks ago to ask for their employment, following their strike that lasted nearly two months, in front of the governorate’s headquarters, which resulted in promising them jobs within few weeks, in November 2018.
The Tunisian League for the Defence of Human Rights, in Kairouan, the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights and the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women in Kairouan expressed their solidarity with the right to work and the right to fair development in the region. They called on the Prime Minister to adhere to his commitments, accelerate in the addressing of these files and to open the channels of dialogue.
They also expressed their deep concern about the deterioration of the strikers’ health and the desperate movement that threatens their lives.
