Last Wednesday, a protest march was held in front of the civil prison in “Ksar”, asking for the release of the bloggers Abdurrahman Wadadi and Sheikh Ould Jeddou after their imprisonment following the case of the ”frozen Dubai funds”.
The Freedoms’ campaign in Mauritania said that Wadadi and Ould Jeddou were arrested following the “Sheikh Al-Redha” case, noting that the issue of frozen Dubai billions was merely a cover-up of the real reason for their imprisonment.
The protesters considered the case as a political one, asking for the suspension of the policy of pre-trial detention used by the Mauritanian regime to suppress the opposition.
Ould Wadadi and lawyer Sheikh Ould Jeddou were arrested for publishing information about the frozen funds belonging to the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz in Dubai. According to its statement, the Public Prosecution opened an investigation for the incident and contacted all the parties, following the associations’ demands to investigate the case a month ago.
The bloggers were referred to the civil prison in “Ksar” on last 27 March.
