The head of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Libya, Nermin Al-Shrif, blamed the Minister of Labour and the Presidential Council of the coalition government of what is happening to the migrant workers and migrants in Tripoli, as the latter are forced to join fights and fronts.
This was during a meeting in Marseilles held on 9 and 10 April, which dealt with a number of issues related to the Mediterranean basin and the South.
The head of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Libya, Nermin Sharif, talked about the trade union situation in Libya, in addition to the recent events and the tension in Tripoli. She expressed her rejection of the armed militias, which are forcing migrants to fight in the Tripoli fronts.
She pointed out that there are about 24 official shelters for the migrants in Tripoli under the control of the so-called coalition government, and that there are more than 13 illegal centres established by the armed militias in Tripoli, under its control where the collation government authorities cannot even approach to them.
She also confirmed to the Italian trade unions that the support provided by the government of the Italian right to the coalition government amounts to 5 million euros to curb the irregular migration from Libya to Italy.
Nermin Al-Shrif revealed that this was one of the reasons for the establishment of these illegal centres, as the government gave part of this money to these militias, which were smuggling migrants in shabby boats for huge amounts of money.
She revealed that the illegal shelters are in fact prisons of migrants through which they are trafficked, sold, tortured and sometimes killed so as not to travel by sea. Consequently, their numbers are reduced and they will be given money again, not to limit immigration but to kill, traffic and enslave migrants.
Al-Shrif confirmed to the present trade unions that the militias and the coalition government in Tripoli are now forcing the immigrants to join the war and asked them to register the violations against migrants in their reports to the United Nations and the International Labour Organization and asked for the presentation of this data at the European Trade Union Conference and the Mediterranean Summit, scheduled for next May.
In this meeting, the participants stressed their rejection of these violations by the coalition government against the migrants, who fled wars in their countries to find themselves in prisons in Libya and exposed to death, used as human shields in the war. They also confirmed that they will work on establishing an international committee for field work on this hot topic.
