Egypt's Exxon Mobil land transport workers carried out a strike, since 25 February, asking for the provision of the occupational health and safety rules, the improvement of equipment and the paving roads to be usable.
They also called for the formation and training of workers and the preservation of their dignity and moral and financial rights (salary and pension).
The protesters also stressed on the disbursement of the financial and professional benefits, notably the end of service benefits, after the company’s announced the liquidation of its transport fleet and the use of less experienced and efficient transport contractors and drivers, despite the international training sessions on the driving of the inflammable tanker trucks.
The Workers' Services House in Egypt revealed that workers are aware of the dangerous nature of their professions. Thus, workers were keen to develop their expertise and obtain the highest level of professional competence, away from the company’s management procrastination and its non-provision of the minimum safety in order to employ low-cost and low-skilled workers, as well as its refusal to pay the most qualified and experienced layoffs.
Many independent trade unions in Egypt and abroad expressed their solidarity with these workers and called for their fairness.
