Yesterday morning, hundreds of workers of the General Company for Leather and Textile Industries, gathered in front of the gate of the textile factory "Al-Kut" organized a protest organized by the Wasit province trade union of the General federation of Iraqi workers and the Coordinating Committee of the Civil Movement and the Committee of Textile Factory "Al-Kut".
In fact, this protest is the third of its kind during this period, during which the protesters expressed their surprise regarding the Ministry of Industry and local government’s negligence and the ignoring of the protesters’ demands.
The workers are asking for the cancellation of the partnership between the textile industries company and the leather industries company and the enactment of a new law for the payment of salaries, allowances and the need to support the company's factories by obliging the security ministries and the other ministries to contract with the Ministry of Industry companies, as well as the cancellation of the failing partnership.
They are also asking the Ministry of Finance to pay the entitlements of the dismissed workers of political pertinence and the Council of Ministers to include the workers in the instalment procedures for the amounts of valuation of the distribution of plots of land and apartments like the rest of the ministry employees, as well as the need to review the income tax deductions, considering that the amounts are very large and not do commensurate with the salary amount.
