The Algerian police announced last Friday that 75 protesters were arrested and 11 policemen were slightly injured, during the capital protests to ask for the overthrown of the current regime and not to postpone the elections, according to the Reuters agency.
Thousands of protesters took part in one the biggest protests in the capital against the rule of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, since last month.
Bouteflika decided not to run for a fifth term and announced on Monday that the elections scheduled for April would be postponed.
Protests in Algeria recorded a new record regarding the number of protesters, in their fourth week, following President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s announcement of the postponement of the elections and the extension of his term.
Demonstrations reached their peak in Algiers, followed by other demonstrations in several provinces of the country, amid security alert.
Witnesses said that tens of thousands of protesters gathered in the center of Algiers on Friday in one of the biggest protests that have started last month. The protestors raised slogans, including "the people want to overthrow the regime," and "there is no minute Bouteflika," and "there is no extension Bouteflika "And" No to foreign interference ".
The protestors’ slogans condemned also the ruling National Liberation Front party, in many ways, the most prominent of which was "Leave."
In the eastern city of Tizi Ouzou, hundreds marched against the postponement of the presidential elections in Algeria. The protestors announced their rejection of the extension of the fourth term of the Algerian president and the postponement of the elections, asking for a comprehensive change of the regime.
Workers of the oil companies of the Sonatrach complex in Algeria organized marches in Hassi Messaoud and Hassi Raml in support of the popular movement.
Workers of the Third Gas Pump Project in Hassi Raml in “Laghouat” province started also a strike to support the movement, in rejection of the Algerian president’s decisions, as well as workers from the petroleum sector.
