Egyptian workers victims of fraud in Kuwait?

Dozens of Egyptian workers in Kuwait held an open strike, last Tuesday in front of their embassy in protest against the fraud exercised by the owner of a recruiting bureau, and his non-commitment to the contract concluded with them.

The protesters asked for an intervention to find a solution to their problems, ranging from the absence of job opportunities and financial liquidity to run their day-to-day affairs.

These workers called on the embassy of their country and the General Authority for Manpower to summon the owner of the company who recruited them.

In the same context, the official spokesperson of the Kuwait General Authority for Labour Force confirmed that the authority started to take legal action to find out the details of the complaint of the protesting Egyptian workers. She pointed out that the authority will call the legal representative of the company and call a number of the affected workers to investigate the complaint, as the number of workers registered in the company is 39 workers, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper, "Al-Qabas".

The authority spokeswoman stated that only two workers lodged complaint against the employer (complaint of definitive banning from travel), and it is under investigation, noting that the employer submitted the payroll of the period until September 2018 in the competent department.

She stressed that the affected employees must lodge complaints in the labour relations unit, stressing the keenness of the General Authority for Labour Force to protect the workers’ rights in the country and take legal action against any company that violates the labour law.

It is noteworthy that he Egyptian community is one of the largest Arab communities in the Gulf country, where more than four million people live and the proportion of expatriates is more than twice of the number of citizens.
