The Jordanian Labour Observatory calls for the improving of the Jordanian economy in order to create new decent job opportunities

The Jordanian Labour Observatory, affiliated to the Phenix Center for Economic and Informatics Studies stressed the need to improve Jordan's economy in order to create decent job opportunities for all new workers and to improve the working conditions in Jordan in general and women in particular.

The observatory called for the review of the various strategies and programs aimed at enhancing the role of women in the economic life and the labour market, either those issued by relevant governmental institutions or by the civil society institutions, not only for the purpose of codifying and protecting women's rights but also to ensure the implementation of these rights.

In a statement issued last Thursday in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation on the occasion of International Women's Day, the Jordanian Labour Observatory called for the enforcement of the rights stipulated in the Jordanian legislation, stressing that it is necessary to facilitate the establishment of social forces parallel to the powers of employers,  through the formation of real and effective trade unions for all categories of wage earners, that should be independent and democratic to be able to effectively perform their work under pressure to improve the working conditions.
