Workers and agents from the municipality of Tunis are planning to partake in protest movements and strike in the next few days. This is due to the accumulated social and professional problems which have been always neglected by the Supervisory Authority and Municipality.
The Tunisian General Union of Labor reported the lack of the simplest means of work protection and the absence of decent work standards. Even though the workers are making big efforts in their work in extremely difficult conditions.
Despite the responsibility taken by Union Structures to improve the working situation, the municipality of Tunis still procrastinating in dealing with the tough work and social conditions.
In their last meeting, the workers of the municipality called for establishing the principal law for municipalities and for reviewing work grants for night shifts, transport, promotions, and garbage lifting.
Also, they sought for improving work conditions, applying health and safety standards, and providing personal protective equipment for 2018 and 2019. Besides, the workers appealed for providing administrative equipment and maintaining all transport means within the municipality. Agents sought also for having higher-valued meal vouchers and for opening recruiting vacancies. They also invited for being independent of Members of the Municipal Council.
