In light of the February-20 strike in Morocco: The IndustriAll Global Union supports the Democratic Confederation of Labour CTD

Valter Sanches, the General Secretary of the IndustriAll Global Union, announced in a letter addressed to Abdelkader Zayer, the General Secretary of the Democratic Confederation of Labour CTD, his support for the confederation's decision to launch a national strike on February 20 in the public sector, public institutions, and territorial groups, as well as the raising of badges for the private sector workers, and the organization of regional protest marches on the 24th of the same month.

"On the behalf of the IndustriAll Global Union, which represents more than 50 million workers in the mining and energy industries and manufacturing industries in 140 countries, I write to you in support of your decision to launch a national strike on February 20, 2019 to pressure the government to resume the social dialogue, leading to concrete and fair results.” Said Sanches in his letter.

Sanchez stressed the continuation of his follow up of the working conditions in Morocco, revealing their developments in the recent months, expressing his solidarity with the demands made by the CTD to the government, describing it in his letter as "fair" and "legitimate."

The Democratic Confederation of Labour asks for a general increase in wages of 600 dirhams ($ 62) for all employees, a reduction in the income tax, a tax exemption from tax cuts, an increase in the minimum wage by 10 per cent for all the private sector workers, and the provision of a common minimum wage between the industrial, agricultural and services sectors.

The confederation also asks for the return of all the expelled workers, the implementation of the provisions of the Labour Code, the respect for the trade union freedoms and the implementation of the commitments included in the April 26, 2011 agreement (particularly in the area of compensation for remote areas and the creation of a new class for all the concerned groups), as well as the integration of the workers, who were forced to contract in the basic system of the civil service and the returning of the retirement file to the social dialogue table.
