The Democratic Confederation of Labour (CTD) is busy preparing for the general strike, which is scheduled for February 20 by the civil service and local communities, to protest against the halt of the social dialogue and the government's intransigence to devote a lucrative wage increase and improve the social status of the Moroccans.
The Confederation confirmed that the strike will be a protest against the vicious attack on the social gains, the declining of the purchasing power of the working class, the spread of all forms of corruption and financial leaks, and the restriction on the rights and freedoms, especially the trade union freedoms.
The government had proposed to trade unions an increase in the employees’ salaries by about $ 20 per month this year, with an additional of $ 10 in 2020 and $ 20 in 2021, but this increase is limited only to the employees who earn $ 520 per month, which was rejected by the trade unions.
The unions call for the improvement of the government’s proposal, especially in light of the deterioration of the families’ purchasing power, stressing that it should not be limited to only one group of employees, as it should include all of them, with the emphasis on the protection of the trade union freedoms.
