The entrances to the capital Algiers have become a major traffic jam since Sunday morning, because of the arrival of many wounded soldiers in the capital to protest and against the non-meeting of their demands.
The military wounded are asking for a number of demands, including the use of Article 45 bis of the amended Military Pensions Law issued on 27/02/2013 in the Algerian Official Gazette, which stipulates the implementation of the article’s provisions starting from January 1, 2012 which was not implemented.
They are also asking for the benefiting of the Supplementary Law No. 12-3 of 13 February 2012 of the Official Gazette, which stipulates: “The minimum pension amount mentioned in the abovementioned paragraph shall also apply to similar pensions starting from 1st January 2012”. Moreover, they are asking to benefit from the consolidation of the pensionable rules of retirees, belonging to the same category (rank, weapon, seniority) and, more precisely, the unification of among the retirees, who retired before 2011, in addition to other demands.
The Algerian authorities refuse to discuss with the representatives of the injured army and to even achieve some of their demands, which lead to the launching of new protests by the retired, disabled and rights holders’ workers, followed by the confrontation with the gendarmerie and police.
