In disregard of the Jordanian laws: Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization objects to the adoption of Thursday as a holiday and punishes workers

In light of the government’s announcement of Thursday as a national holiday for both the public and private sectors because of the weather affecting the kingdom, Talal Abu-Ghazaleh for professional and international services issued a statement to the employees stating that the holidays in the company "except for the statutory holidays" are determined by the company and that it will punish the violators and that it is an offense that will be taken into consideration in assessing the workers’ performance.

The Phenix Center for Economic and Informatics Studies said that the company's statement contains a clear legal violation. Moreover, according to its director Ahmed Awadh in his Facebook page, the company's statement regarding the punishment of employees who did not join the company on the pretext that "the company is the one which pays the salaries, not the government" is a clear violation of the law, in which there is a clear challenge and disregard for the Jordanian laws.

Awadh stressed that the company must adhere to the international and local labour standards and that the violation of the workers' rights constitutes a violation that will affect its reputation and its work in Jordan and around the world. In addition, he called on the Ministry of Labour to protect the employees of this company and avoid their punishment.
