The director of the Media Center and Spokesperson of the Social Security Corporation, Mousa Al-Soubiihi, stated that the work in the field of hospitals’ cleaning has been categorized according to the Hazardous Occupations Schedule, included in the amended system of the Insurance Benefits No. 120 of 2016 issued under the Social Security Law No. 1 of 2014.
He added in a press statement that the profession of cleaning hospitals is considered dangerous because the nature of the work in this profession is harmful to the health of workers, as a result of their exposure to chemicals, lead, and biological hazards and dangerous wastes. In addition, it is dangerous, as workers work in very uncomfortable conditions, which led to the spread of symptoms and diseases of upper and lower muscles.
Al- Soubiihi called on all hospitals that directly employ cleaning workers, and the service companies that provide hospitals with cleaning workers, to provide the Social Security Corporation with the names, wages and dates of these workers, and their commitment to pay 1 percent of their wages, in addition to their other commitments, in accordance with the law, in order to protect the rights of these workers.
It is worth mention that the Social Security Corporation started working on special provisions for the workers in hazardous professions since March 2015, in accordance with the provisions of the law, which allowed the workers in the occupations classified as dangerous to be able to retire early. This is considered one of the most important positive developments in the Jordanian social security legislation, thus, the empowerment of these workers to leave the labour market early in order to preserve their safety, health and life.
