The Secretary-General of the Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions, Shahir Saad, announced that 2019 is the year to raise the minimum wage.
During a meeting with the leaders of the branch unions in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh governorates, Saad confirmed that 120 000 women do not receive the minimum wage because employers evade from this legal benefit. There is a considerable weakness in the implementation of the Labour Code itself, where its implementation involves the strengthening and enforcing of the minimum wage system, pointing out that the union decided to start a series of events in the field to ask for the employers’ commitment to the minimum wage, which will be implemented under the slogan "raise the minimum wage to 2450 Shekel."
