Starting from yesterday: The higher education teachers in Tunisia entered in an open-ended strike at the ministry's headquarters

The higher education teachers in Tunisia entered in an open-ended strike since yesterday at the Ministry of Higher Education under the supervision of the General Federation of Higher Education of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT).

This strike comes, according to a statement issued by the General Federation, as an advanced form of struggle, to express the university professors’ demands and defend the public university while preserving the students’ interests as a last chance for the ministry before entering into extreme forms of struggling.

The professors of higher education ask for the implementation of the agreements between the ministry and the union party, including the opening of recruitment and the opening of the promotion plans. They also protest against the closure of the dialogue and the adoption of supreme reforms without referring to the pedagogic structures.

Moreover, the General Federation of Higher Education confirmed in a statement its commitment to promote the university professors, in light of the deterioration of their purchasing power, considering that the public university institution has become threatened, in light of the increasing migration of scientific competencies. Thus, this would contribute to the deterioration of the student's scientific level and affect the real value of the scientific studies’ certificates.
