A court in Algeria sentenced one-year prison sentence and a fine of 100 000 dinars (about 750 euros) for the journalist, “Adlan Malah”, a journalist and editor-in-chief of “Algérie Direct” and “Dzair Presse”, after being charged with "Gathering without holding a weapon and the disrespect of an employee while working, in addition to rebellion."

“Adlan Malah” was held in custody after his arrest on 9 December in front of the National Theatre.

Reporters Without Borders called for the immediate release of “Adlan Malah”, who participated in a protest in front of the National Theatre in Algiers in support of the singer “Reda City 16”, who has been in detention since last October.

On December 18, the prosecutor asked for a three-year prison sentence for the journalist, “Adlan Malah”.

“Adlan Malah”, along with his accomplice are expected to be present in court on February 7 in another case where he was charged with "extortion", "privacy violation" and "defamation" in a complaint filed against him by “Anis Rahmani”, President of Ennahar Complex, the largest private media group in Algeria, “Abdelkader Zoukh”, the governor of Algiers, and “Abdel Rahman Ben Hammadi”, the chief executive of Condor for Electronics.

The Algerian media confirmed that “Adlan Malah” has entered in an open hunger strike since Wednesday in protest against the court's decision.
