The engineers and agricultural engineers working in the Ministry of Education staged a strike in front of the ministry's headquarters in Amman on Monday afternoon with the participation of the head of agricultural engineers, members of the union’s council, the vice president of the Jordanian engineers and a number of MPs.
Hundreds participated in the protest activities called by the two unions to ask for the rights of engineers and agricultural engineers working in the ministry and their equality with their counterparts of engineers who work in various ministries of the state.
The protesters called on the government to review its decisions and not to monopolize the poor and middle classes and to punish the corrupt instead of depriving the citizens of their rights, asking for the withdrawal of all the interrogations and the abolition of all the penalties imposed on the participants in the strike as a constitutional right.
The sources said that more than 400 interrogations and measures were issued against the participants in the strike and that the Secretary-General of the ministry issued instructions to restrict on the protesters and to question all the participants in the protests.
Both union of engineers and agricultural engineers called for launching a strike in a statement issued last Saturday, stressing that the only responsible for the escalation in this file is the government. They also called on the government to deal seriously with those who teach and build the future of generations.
