The Palestinian doctors protest against the medical safety law

The Palestinian doctors launched on Saturday a strike to protest against the implementation of the law on the "safety, health protection and medical safety " approved by the Palestinian government recently, stressing that the Council of the Medical Syndicate is always available to criticize this law and ask for amendments made by the union and dropped without its approval.

The strike included all the non-emergency cases in hospitals, including dialysis, cancer, emergency cases, delivery and blood diseases, as committed by doctors in public hospitals, centres, clinics and private hospitals.

The doctors ask for the approval of the law amendments on the protection and medical health, which was approved recently by the President Mahmoud Abbas. Moreover, the doctors stress that the law is the doctors’ syndicate demand to provide protection for both doctors and citizens. However, everyone was surprised when the law was passed, as the final version of the law did not include the amendments provided by the union.

The doctors' syndicate refuses to punish the doctor according to the criminal law, but under the Palestinian Civil Code, in case of any medical error. "The doctor who studied for many years in medical specialties is not a criminal and is not here to kill a patient. The doctor works to provide a medical service to patients. "

The union stressed that its demands are to unite the nature of work for general doctors and the freezing of the two laws regarding the medical responsibility and social security, stressing that any violation against doctors, in light of their trade union activities will lead to serious consequences.

The Supreme Court of Justice issued a decision to stop the strike announced on Monday by the Medical Syndicate, until the investigation of the lawsuit filed by the Palestinian government on carrying on strike in the public service, in which a strike is prohibited for certain groups, including the health sector.
