The East Cairo Prosecution decided to hear and interrogate a number of doctors on their attack by the police officers in 2016 which led them to go on strike on 27, 29 and 30 December at “Al-Matareya” hospital.
The case dates back to the end of January 2016, when two doctors at “Al-Matareya” hospital accused the police officers of assaulting them. Consequently, thousands of doctors organized strikes and protests to ask for the prosecution of the aggressors.
The prosecution requested the summoning of 40 doctors, including members of the General Association of Physicians and the Medical Syndicate Council in Cairo at that time.
In March 2017, the court ruled the detention of the three police officers in charge of assaulting the doctors at “Al-Matareya” hospital.
