The social protests that began a week ago in Sudan continue to ask for the improvement of the living conditions and in protest against the rising of the living costs.
Amnesty International has confirmed that Omar Al-Bashir's regime killed more than 30 martyrs and deliberately arrested hundreds of people.
The gathering of the Sudanese professionals organized a march on Tuesday (25 December) to raise a number of demands for professionals and workers to the Sudanese parliament following the launching of a series of protests throughout most of Sudan, which called for the peaceful abolition of the regime, after a long suffering, poverty and the repression and violation of the Sudanese people liberties.
The Sudanese professionals’ group led a mass procession to the palace, after consulting its civil society and political partners, to deliver a memorandum to the Presidency, yesterday, asking for the immediate overthrow of the president, in response to the Sudanese people's will. They also asked for a new transitional government to be established with competencies of specific tasks, with a consensus between all segments of the Sudanese society.
Sudan's opposition National Alliance revealed in a statement that the security forces arrested their leaders during their meeting in the city of Om Dorman, led by the head of the forces of the National Alliance, Farouk Abu Issa.
According to local media, the number of detainees from the opposition coalition, which includes a number of parties, including the "Communist" and "Arab Baas" parties, amounted to 43 detainees.
Its noteworthy that the protests broke out for the first time in the eastern city of “Atbara” before spreading to the governorate of “Gedaref” in eastern Sudan. They then arrived in “Khartoum”, “Om Dorman” and other areas, to protest against the poor economic situation and reject the government's decision to raise the price of bread, from one Sudanese pound to three pounds per loaf.
Sudan has been facing an escalating economic crisis since last year as the prices of some goods have doubled, inflation has risen nearly to 70 percent, as well as, the decrease of the local currency.
Several cities have suffered from the significant lack of the basic commodities, during the recent weeks, including the capital, “Khartoum”.
Large protests erupted in January over the high food costs, but the authorities managed to control them with the arrest of opposition leaders and activists.
