A report by France 24 that was broadcasted two months ago on an Ivorian worker “Desirey Quassy”, 25years old, from the Ivory Coast to work in Kuwait as a domestic worker. She confirmed that after her arrival, she was detained against her will by her employer and was subjected to sexual harassment for several months.
The report stated that a suspicious Kuwaiti agency called “Al-Fadhli” was recruiting and exploiting domestic workers, which had detained a number of working women against their will, who were left starving, unless they accept to do sexual services.
“Quassy” stated that she arrived to Kuwait in January 2018, through a good agency, and worked several months in different houses. However, because of her chronic illness, the agency transferred her to another agency, as the former refused to pay her medical bills.
“Quassy” highlighted that once she arrived to the new agency, she began to suffer, being forced to work in different houses without payment, and even when she was not at work she was kept in a locked apartment.
According to the report, after receiving these information, the Kuwaiti security services stormed the apartment, where the suspect (60 years old) was arrested, an investigation was opened regarding the trafficking in human beings and saved 25 women, including 5 workers, who were sharing a room together with “Quassy”, then they were all taken to a shelter.
On the other hand, according to local media, members of the department of domestic labour were able to locate the Ivorian worker, in an office for domestic workers in the northern “Jahra” region. The office was raided where they found her along with other two Ivorian girls.
The local media confirmed that, following the investigations with the worker in question, it was confirmed that the report broadcast by the French channel on the allegations of harassment and sexual exploitations was not true, as she was just absent from the house of her sponsor, so she was deported, while the other two maids asked voluntarily to return to their homeland. Thus, all the necessary measures were taken to deport them.
