The nurses and health technicians entered a two-day general strike yesterday, following the call of the National Commission of Nurses of the Moroccan Workers’ Union.
The nurses ask for the abolition of the two branches system and the endorsement of the financial retroactive effect of the equation of 2011, in addition to their immediate redress regarding the occupational hazard compensation grant, and to urgently intervene and to take legal measures to end the ongoing violations on the workers in the medical sector.
They also ask for the establishment of a National Commission for Nurses and Health Technicians to protect their profession from intruders, as well as, reviewing the unfair promotion conditions that are disproportionate to the extent of the sacrifices and dangers facing the Moroccan nurses, in addition to the rehabilitation of the government nurses with two years of training. Moreover, they ask also for the creation of sufficient financial positions to integrate all the unemployed graduates, in light of the large human resources’ gaps and the increasing demand for nursing health services and the revision of Decree No. 535.17.2.
The strike was very successful, proving the legitimacy of the nurses’ demands, who also expressed with great bitterness their deep regret over the health of the Moroccan citizen today becoming a target for people seeking only profits. In fact, the Moroccan nurses suffer from the miserable working conditions, as they are in direct contact with the patients without any protection because of the failing policies in the health, which lack willingness for real reform.
It is also expected that the nurses and health professionals will enter in another three-day general strike starting on September 11 except for the rehabilitation and emergency departments if the same rigid approach pursued by the government continues with their social and professional dues.
