The National Union of Hydrological Stations, Water and Dams Users and Observers decided to take part in a strike in front of the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, starting from Monday 26 November for two days. It also announced that workers will be forced to enter into an open strike, if the ministry does not meet their demands, among which the payment of their delayed salaries, since last January with respect to the minimum wage as provided by the law.
The National Union issued a statement stating the negotiating track with the ministry and the promises made by the latter towards settling the outstanding problems, expressing its condemnation regarding the ministry’s non-commitment to fulfill those pledges.
We published in an earlier electronic newsletter the protest program carried out by the workers recently, denouncing the ministry’s indifference regarding their demands, first and foremost the settlement of their administrative situation and their enjoyment of their basic rights, including social protection, health coverage and the right to pension.
The protesters expressed their condemnation of the denial of their basic role and their professional status in their workplace as they are being considered as seasonal workers, when they have been working for years as a technical and administrative management of water resources. The workers expressed their condemnation of the harsh professional conditions, due to the absence of the necessary means of work, that would enable them perform their duty in good circumstances.
