This year in Saudi Arabia: The rise of the number of labor disputes waiting for amicable agreement

The Saudi Labor Minister said that the Labor Dispute Settlement Authority in the ministry received about 60 000 cases last year. The settlement rate was only about 15 percent, while in the first nine months of this year it received about 60 percent, while the settlement rate was 20 percent.

The increase in these cases is due to the increase in the number of expatriate workers and the recent changes in the labor system, which led to an increase in the percentage of local employees’ layoffs by 1.5%. It is also due to the low number of meetings and the non-activation of the mechanism of the friendly reconciliation.

Problems are clearly exacerbated, in light of the intransigence of some employers and their prompt recourse to provide the workers' escape reports, reducing the opportunities for friendly settlements.

The experts stressed that the most prominent labor disputes result from long working hours and delayed salaries.
