The Egyptian trade union field was surprised by the statements made by MP “Jabali Al-Maraghi”, the chairman of the Labor Party Committee of the House of Representatives and the head of the General Union of the Egyptian Workers' Unions, in which he attacked the law of trade union organizations and protection of the trade union right.
These statements come a short time before the ILO’s Standards Committee setting of the position of Egypt and other countries on the rights of workers and the right to create or join unions, making Egypt vulnerable to be included in the list of long or short notes known as " the black list" of the countries that violate the international labor standards.
According to local media, “Maraghi “said last week that some articles of the law will cause the collapse of the trade union movement. In addition, there is the intransigence of the Ministry of Manpower in some procedures during the elections of trade unions and labor union committees, and during the reconciliation of the situation of some trade union entities, where it requested papers not provided in the law or in any regulation, which is considered as impossible for people, according to him.
“Saad Chaabane”, the head of the Egyptian Democratic Labor Congress (EDLC), said in a statement on “Facebook": "Finally one of their own bore witnesses… “Jabali Al-Maraghi” confirms that the trade unions law has gaps and that the ministry requests what is not required and wastes the right of establishing many unions”.
