The suspension of the maintenance technicians' strike at Air Algérie

Air Algérie maintenance technicians decided to suspend their strike for more than 11 days and return to work, while 12 trade unionists from the National Union of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians were arrested because of the strike.

A source from the union confirmed that the strike of the maintenance technicians of Air Algérie, which started on 11 November, was not called by the union since the court ruled in July 31st to freeze the strike declared by the union to ask for the workers' rights. Moreover, since the beginning of November, the social subsidiary of the Casablanca court ruled out the illegality of the strike, and the case is still ongoing.

The source said that what happened was the result of the pressure on the maintenance workers and the practices of the company. The workers suffer in addition of the violation of their rights in light of the restriction of the union and its prevention from striking to defend for the workers' demands, which led them to protest and strike for more than 11 days.

While the maintenance technicians’ protest affected on the situation of Air Algérie, which took measures against 12 unionists, where they were arrested immediately after the strike. However, the union denied any belonging to this protest, and claimed that it started independently, by the maintenance technicians and that it has nothing to do with them. They considered that the closure of the door of dialogue by the administration is the real reason behind the worsening of the situation, asking about the reason behind the arrest of 12 trade unionists, while they have nothing to do with the strike, asserting its preservation of the right to legal proceedings regarding the implementation of the procedures, in case the sanctions continue against the trade unionists.
