The National Executive Office called on all the public sector employees to ensure the success of the general strike scheduled for 22 November to boost their rights, assert their unity and challenge the bets of some on sedition, and question the capabilities of the public officials and their struggles by spreading rumors and attempting to destabilize the Tunisians of the Tunisian General Labor Union.
The executive office said in a statement issued on Monday that the issue of opening a session for social negotiations as a result of prior agreement with the government since 27 November 2017, was renewed in April 2018, ending with the signing of the joint communiqué on 13 July 2018 that would end the negotiations with a deadline in 15 September 2018. Moreover, it points out that the government has decided not to adhere to its commitments and has chosen to violate the social dialogue and confront the public workers under the dictates of the International Monetary Fund and its liberal options, which are against social or union movement, to deepen the crisis of the country and push it to an unknown fate.
The executive office explained that the wage review is an entitlement dictated by the aggravating factors of inflation, the regression of the dinar, the rising of prices, the rising of tax burdens and the costs of living, low services, the increasing of the family debt and the rising of unemployment. Moreover, it is in light of the corruption, monopoly, smuggling, poor working conditions, and the increasing of inequities and violations among the public workers, which are accompanied by campaigns to smear the Tunisian administration and its image and question its efficiency, which exacerbated their sufferings and burdens and the burdens of their families as well.
The Executive Office considered that the unpopular and national political choices of the government, as well as, the supporting coalition deepened the social crisis and the impoverishment of the public workers, who are historically one of the most important components of the middle classes and which contribute directly to the social and economic balance. It also pointed out that the policies of external indebtedness, mortgage of the country's resources, the influence of foreign countries and being subject to the instructions of the international money funds and the destruction of the public utilities transformed the lives of most of the Tunisians, including the public workers into hell, and instilled in them despair and frustration especially with the fast enrichment of some people, in addition to the absence of governance, the spread of corruption, the expansion of smuggling, tax and social evasion. A new small rich class emerged taking benefit of the bad governance, looting the country, stressing on the formation of lobbies and power centers to blackmail the state, steal the public funds and loot the public treasury, which is filled mainly by the wage earners and public workers’ taxes
