The Independent Workers' Confederation of Mauritania (CMLT) issued its report on the violation of human rights, international unions and conventions, regarding the discussion about the Mauritanian situation in the World Trade Organization.
The report stressed the persistence of slavery practices against many of the "Haratins" and their humiliation, despite the efforts of the international community and international human rights organizations and actors to eliminate this phenomenon and create an adequate environment to redress and integrate these victims.
work of recruiting domestic workers and employees. Moreover, it is estimated that tens of thousands of the young teenagers "Harratin” girls are located in Saudi Arabia in horrible conditions in a complete separation from their families and home country.
The federation confirmed that the trafficking in human beings would not have taken place without the complicity of the Mauritanian government, which signed an agreement with the government of Saudi Arabia with no substance or any guarantee to respect the rights of these workers.
On the other hand, the report pointed to the continuing practice of racial discrimination against the "Haratins", who are the most affected by the extreme poverty, ignorance and disease as a result of an organized policy aimed at destroying them by depriving them and strangulating them economically, noting that the TADAMOUNE works out of transparency and without the real involvement of victims or representatives of the civil society in its policy of discrimination and racism.
The federation provided examples of violations of basic human rights, including the violent repression of human rights activists, peaceful demonstrators belonging to political parties and the civil society, as well as the imprisonment of anti-slavery activists with unfair trials and unjustified sanctions, and the torture of people in detention. In fact, this was the case of “Abdallah Ould Yali”, who has been imprisoned because of his views.
On the freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, the report highlighted that trade unionism has become difficult, during the recent years because of many obstacles, as well as very strong pressure on trade unions and workers, at a time when the role of trade unions is increasingly needed due to the continuous deterioration of the working conditions.
In addition to the serious misconduct, the violations of fundamental ILO Conventions and fundamental human rights principles, union members and union leaders cannot adopt or carry out peaceful acts without being subjected to violence, intimidation and detention.
Besides, the workers are deprived of the freedom of association, freedom to practice the right to organize, and the obstruction of their activities, subjected to strict restrictions, including the right to strike, despite several recommendations of the ILO committee on the implementation of the global standards.
In addition to all these difficulties and this obstructive routine, there is no social dialogue, despite its importance in settling many problems facing work today.
