The workers of Hamptons International in Qatar are living under miserable and unsafe conditions

Bangladesh's common and official circles’ have been raising demands, calling for the rescue of the workers in Qatar from their suffering, two days after discovering the danger encountering hundreds of residents in Doha for nearly six months.

In its strongly worded report, “The New Nation” confirmed that the Qatari government did not move or lend a hand to the 300 workers, who are stuck in a camp and deprived of the basic services, 25 kilometers far from the capital for several months and without wages.

The report confirmed also that the 300 workers are deprived also of clean water, electricity and food, which led to at least two deaths, a Bangladeshi and a Nepalese.

These workers are part of the 900 workers, coming from several countries from South Asia to work in Qatar for the Hamptons International company, which was carrying out near the “Shahaniya” a project suspended in September.

“The New Nation” called for taking a legal action to compel the Doha stakeholders to compensate the workers for the financial and humanitarian losses they have suffered over the past months, as well as, the deseases among the residents of the "death camp" near the "Shahaniya", because of the lack of cleaning services and the inability of residents to shower, which resulted in a breeding ground for insects.

The Bangladeshi newspaper called on the country's embassy in Qatar to make all the necessary arrangements to help these workers, as soon as possible.

In the same context, the Bangladeshi media pointed out to the human rights organizations’ concerned statements about the situation of migrant workers in Qatar, that over the past months, the residents of the "death camp" complained to the national police, the Ministry of Labor, the Commission on Human Rights, the International Labor Organization, the Qatar Red Crescent and Qatar Charity, but nothing has changed.

This coincided with hollow pledges made by the Qatari authorities themselves to settle the problem of salaries, which have been suspended since late May.
